I've been an ELT teacher since 1979, having been trained at International House, London.
I've taught pretty much every kind of English class, apart from young learners and early teens: a lot of general English classes, and Cambridge examination classes in particular, but also business English and some ESP.
I've also taught a lot of literature courses, covering more than fifty writers from Marlowe and Shakespeare to contemporaries such as John Banville and Ian McEwan.
In addition, I've done a lot of teacher training and teacher development: I was one of the three tutors who founded the first ever CELTA course in Switzerland, at the VHS in Zurich in 1983 (it wasn't called CELTA back then), and I've been a CELTA tutor ever since. I've been a Delta tutor since 1989.
I've also been a CELTA assessor since 1988, and was Joint Chief Assessor for Switzerland, France, Germany, Austria, Poland and the Czech Republic for 11 years.
In addition, I've been giving workshops for teachers since 1982, throughout Switzerland, around Europe, and from 2002 in India.
In India, I work closely with an NPO called Madurai Seed, and am president of its Swiss support group, Friends of Madurai Seed, which I co-founded in 2008- see the India page in the tool bar for more details about both organisations. There's also a link to Friends of Madurai Seed on the home page.
